Native Instruments takes on the Microsoft renewal modelNative instruments announced their new upgrade
model for owners of the Komplete bundle recently.
I own the Native Instruments Komplete bundle,
which I like. I mostly use Reaktor (which I had before) and Absynth, but I
figure I'll get around to using most of the rest of it eventually. Recently, NI
has announced upgrades for both Absynth and Battery, but they didn't make
upgrades available simply to users of Komplete. Finally, they announced a subscription-like model for bundle
owners. It is expensive. Not crazy expensive, but it is a risk. What happens if
they don't announce any new upgrades for the rest of the year, then you've
wasted a big ton of cash. Now, I trust NI more than I trust Microsoft and this
does seem like a better mechanism for customers who own a bunch of products.
Time will tell, I guess.
