MOTU Announces the Traveler and I'm annoyedMOTU just announced a new portable firewire
interface and it looks cool
I'm a big Mark Of The Unicorn fan, I've got an 828, MIDI
Timepiece AV and Express XT. I was considering getting their 828 Mk II to
replace the 828 for live work (the increased sampling rates and bit depths in
addition to the mixing abilities makes it a very attractive upgrade). I wanted
something portable though, it sucks doing a laptop gig and carrying around a
rack, kinda gets in the way of portability. So, I bought the Edirol FA-101 instead, which I'm quite happy
with... until today. Today, I found out about MOTU's new Traveler firewire interface. It has everything I
liked about the 828 mkII while being much smaller. Of course the FA-101 is
probably still smaller and it was cheaper. Still, I hate getting that buyers
remorse when it is long past too late to do anything about it. It's great seeing
the competition in this arena... maybe when I'm ready for a new portable
interface, the Traveler mk II will be just coming out. Again, I can easily
recommend the FA-101 if you don't want the mixing or ADAT capabilities of the
Traveler, but for doing live work you gotta take a look at this
box.
