Preparing for a gig, part 2

week 2 and nothing got done

Reminder: I'll be performing in Seattle on Saturday, December 11th at The Living Room in Fremont as part of the Texture Series.

So I spent the last week in Chicago. I decided not to bring any of my equipment, but I figured I'd find some time to go through my personal sample library and maybe create some new sounds for the show, as well as create or audition some new reaktor patches that I could use for the gig.

It turned out however that I was a little ambitious about my free time in the windy city and so I pretty much got nothing done on the audio front. I did however get a lot of cool video footage from my hotel room and Millennium Park and various other locales around town, so I'll be incorporating some of that into the videos for the show, so it wasn't a totally lost week.

I did also firm up the equipment for the show as well. I'll have my electric Cello, Repeater, Alesis Wedge, AirFX, Kaoss Pad II running into my FA-101 and laptop. I'll use the Wedge for a non-software reverb to free up some processor on the laptop and will use the AirFX and Kaoss Pad for their processing, but also to make the show a bit more interesting visually. I haven't decided how I want to integrate the cello into this. A part of me is concerned about not having a mixer in case my laptop crashes. Since I have the cello, I could keep going, but the wiring would start to get difficult since I want to route the cello into the laptop as well. I could use a send from the mixer to feed the laptop, but I'd like the two to share the reverb as well, which would eat two sends. I'll figure that part out soon, but for the moment, I've got my external boxes and my laptop set up so I can try it out, should be fun.

10 days to go!
