BILL
HORIST
APRIL 2005 JAPAN TOUR
FUNDRAISER
TWO SETS OF SOLO GUITAR
MUSIC
On Friday March 11, Seattle guitarist,
Bill Horist,
will be making a special
appearance at Gallery 1412
(formerly Polestar
Music Gallery) for two sets of solo
guitar
music. This evening will be a fundraiser
for
Bill's upcoming Japanese tour in April
2005. While in
Japan, Bill will perform solo
and collaborate both
live and in the studio
with Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins),
Kawabata Makoto
(Acid Mothers Temple), KK Null (Zeni
Geva)
and Marco Fernandes among others. The
proceeds
from the event on March 11 will be
applied toward
travel
expenses.
For the first set of the evening,
Bill will present
his rarely heard acoustic
guitar compositions.
With rural environments
as inspiration, many of these
pieces have
been composed in small towns throughout
the
world, including provincial spaces in the
US,
Canada, Italy, France and Thailand.
Bill's acoustic
guitar work has garnered
comparisons to Leo Kottke,
John Fahey and
Stephen Basho-Jungens.
The second set will
feature Horist's trademark
prepared guitar
improvisations. With a battery of
strange
and otherwise useless objects, Bill
culls
otherworldly textures from his guitar
and fosters a
unique "balance between noise
and note"(François
Couture).
Bill's idiosyncratic guitar language has
been
featured on dozens of recordings and in
hundreds
of live performances throughout the
US, Canada, Europe
and Mexico. His work in
this capacity has been placed
alongside the
solo music of Fred Frith, Hans Reichel
and
Keith Rowe.
